COLOMBO (News 1st); The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has issued a public appeal for assistance in identifying individuals posing as IRD officers and fraudulently collecting tax payments.
In a recent statement, the IRD revealed that several impostors have been apprehended by the police for falsely claiming to be tax officers and collecting money in various regions across the island.
The department is urging anyone who has encountered such individuals or made payments to them to immediately report the incident to the nearest police station. Additionally, if any location is under investigation for such fraudulent activities, the public is encouraged to come forward with information.
The IRD emphasized that public cooperation is vital for the ongoing legal proceedings against these fraudulent activities.
