COLOMBO (News 1st): As of 12 noon today, voter turnout in the North-Eastern provinces has surpassed 25%.
District Election Officer JJ Muralidaran said that 25% of votes have been cast in the Batticaloa district. Meanwhile, the Vanni electoral district, which includes Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Mannar, recorded a voter turnout of 25.5%.
The police have confirmed that polling is proceeding peacefully across the regions.
Voting will continue until 4 pm.
R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, Chairman of the Election Commission, urged voters to cast their ballots promptly, citing an advisory from the Department of Meteorology about possible thunderstorms in the evening.
