COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a meeting last morning (13) with academics from the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) at the President's Office.

The discussion focused on the challenges faced by university teachers and potential solutions to address these issues.

During the meeting, the academics highlighted the impact of Sri Lanka's engagement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, which necessitates adherence to specific guidelines and parameters.

Consequently, this year’s budget proposals have been formulated with a focus on revenue and expenditure limitations, prioritizing education and healthcare. Despite these financial constraints, the government has implemented the largest-ever increase in the basic salary of public sector employees.

President Dissanayake assured the academics that the government is fully aware of the challenges faced by all professional groups and is committed to addressing them sensitively while safeguarding the rights of all individuals.
