Sinhala And Tamil New Year Commences With Auspicious Rituals

COLOMBO (News 1st) -  The Sinhala and Tamil New Year dawned at 3.21 a.m. today, marking a time of joy and celebration for Sri Lankans across the country.

Many people visited temples to take part in religious observances and receive blessings for the New Year, while members of the Tamil community offered prayers at kovils.

The auspicious period began at 8.57 p.m. last night and will end at 9.45 a.m. today.

The auspicious time to cook food for the New Year was at 4.04 a.m., while the time for working, trading, and consuming food was set for 6.44 a.m. today.

The auspicious time to anoint oil for the New Year has been scheduled for 9.04 a.m. on Wednesday, the 16th. According to astrological guidelines, individuals are advised to wear green-colored attire, face the north, apply kohomba leaves on the head, kolon leaves on the feet, and bathe using oil mixed with kohomba leaves.

The auspicious time for leaving for work has been set for Thursday, the 17th at 9.03 a.m. On this day, astrology recommends wearing golden-colored clothes, consuming milk rice made with cow’s milk, and setting off towards the north.
