COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Health Ministry has issued a warning about the potential increase in dengue cases in the coming month. Deputy Minister Hansaka Wijayamuni emphasized that all necessary measures have been taken to combat the dengue threat.
In coordination with the National Dengue Control Unit, operations are underway across all districts to minimize the spread of dengue.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that 38 high-risk health regions have been identified, where efforts are being intensified to control the outbreak.
So far this year, 20,000 dengue cases have been reported.
The National Dengue Control Unit has noted an increase in both dengue and chikungunya cases, both of which are transmitted by the same mosquito species.
The Health Ministry has urged the public to seek immediate medical attention if they experience fever. Additionally, a special dengue eradication campaign will be conducted from May 19 to May 24 to further address the issue.
