COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Public Security has announced the launch of an investigation into the alleged illegal issuance of foreign travel passports in recent times.
Minister Ananda Wijepala stated that the Criminal Investigation Department will be handling the probe, which is based on information suggesting that various individuals may have received foreign travel documents through unauthorized or unlawful methods.
According to preliminary findings, passports may have been issued in violation of legal procedures, raising serious concerns about misuse and potential abuse of the immigration system.
The most recent case linked to this investigation involves the reported issuance of a forged passport to an organized criminal named Kehelbaddara Padme, who is currently residing overseas.
Authorities believe that a fake passport was prepared and provided to him through illicit channels.
