COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Election Commission of Sri Lanka has announced that legal action will be taken against candidates who failed to submit their campaign income and expenditure reports related to the local government elections.
According to the Commission, the deadline for submitting these reports expired at midnight yesterday.
The Commission further stated that individuals who did not comply with the requirement will be reported to the police for further investigation and action.
Under the Election Campaign Finance Regulation Act No. 03 of 2023, all candidates are legally obligated to submit separate reports detailing both the income and expenditure of their election campaigns.
The Election Commission also reminded that prior notifications had been issued to all political parties and independent group secretaries, instructing them to ensure that their candidates adhere to these legal requirements.
