Duminda Appears in Court Over Firearm Discovery

COLOMBO (News1st) - Former Minister Duminda Dissanayake, who is currently in remand custody, was presented before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today in connection with an ongoing investigation into the discovery of an unauthorized firearm.

The case relates to the recovery of a gold-colored T-56 assault rifle from an apartment complex in Wellawatte.

Dissanayake was arrested on May 23, 2025, by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) on suspicion of involvement in the incident. 

The weapon, found during a police operation, triggered a high-profile investigation involving Dissanayake and a Kazakh woman, both of whom were taken into custody.
