COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government of Sri Lanka has approved the implementation of Phase I of a Trusted Digital Repository (TDR) at the National Archives, marking a significant step toward preserving the nation’s documentary heritage in digital form.

Originally approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in April 2021, the initiative aims to install essential software for the long-term conservation and secure management of digital records. This project aligns with the core mission of the National Archives: to safeguard and provide access to Sri Lanka’s historical and administrative records.

The International Council on Archives has pledged a grant of €7,000 to support the initiative, helping to offset part of the project’s costs. The repository will enhance the efficiency and accessibility of services provided by the National Archives to the public, researchers, and government institutions.

The Cabinet has now formally endorsed the proposal presented by the Minister of Buddhashasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs to implement the TDR from 2025 to 2027.
