Businessman Found Dead in Jeep After Going for Haircut

COLOMBO (News 1st); The discovery of a charred body inside a jeep in Katupotha has sparked a suspected homicide investigation, with the Mahawa Magistrate’s Court ordering police to arrest all suspects involved and produce them before the court without delay.

The order was issued by Magistrate Narthani Kanchani Abhimani Senewiratne during a hearing today, where police presented initial findings related to the incident. 

The deceased has been identified as Kamal Sampath, a 50-year-old businessman residing in Merry Mount Park, Doratiyawa, Millawa.

According to police, the victim had left home on the Wednesday (25) afternoon, telling his wife he was going to get a haircut. 

He departed in his jeep but failed to return, prompting his wife to file a missing person report with the Doratiyawa Police.

The burned body was later discovered inside the vehicle, raising suspicions of foul play.

The court also instructed the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital’s judicial medical officer to conduct a post-mortem examination and submit a detailed report.

Additionally, the Magistrate ordered police to present a progress report on the ongoing investigation at the next hearing.
