COLOMBO (News 1st) - A fisherman on a multi-day fishing vessel that set sail from Kalutara has drowned.
The Ministry of Fisheries said that the vessel was returning to land due to the prevailing bad weather conditions when the accident occurred.
The Ministry further mentioned that operations are currently underway to search for the missing fisherman.
Meanwhile, a fishing vessel that departed from Chilaw has met with an accident, and the fishermen on board have returned to land.
The Ministry of Fisheries also noted that one of the vessels that set sail from the area has not yet returned to land.
According to the weather forecast, the Fisheries Department advises that small one-day fishing vessels and multi-day fishing vessels engaged in coastal fishing activities should refrain from operating in the sea areas from Puttalam through Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota up to Pottuvil until further notice.
