COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting law enforcement efforts to dismantle organized crime networks operating in Sri Lanka.
Speaking on the current security situation, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Sampath Thuyacontha stated that there is no national security threat, and that the underworld is being effectively contained.
“The underworld has started to panic — and rightly so. They’ve lost their political protection. Arrests are being made, and the Ministry of Public Security is leading a strong program to eradicate these criminal elements,” Thuyacontha said.
He emphasized that the Sri Lanka Police will receive necessary support from the Defence Ministry, within legal boundaries, to ensure the success of ongoing operations.
“We are committed to providing support within the legal framework. The program will eradicate the underworld,” he added.
