COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to appoint a new delimitation committee tasked with reviewing and providing recommendations based on previous reports submitted between 2012 and 2021.
The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, aiming to reassess the recommendations made by earlier committees regarding the establishment and revision of Divisional Secretariat divisions and Grama Niladhari jurisdictions.
The initial delimitation committee was appointed in 2012, but only a limited number of its recommendations were implemented. A second committee was formed in 2021, yet its findings have not been acted upon to date.
Under the new directive, the 2021 committee’s report will be presented to District and Regional Coordination Committees for further input. The newly appointed committee will then review those recommendations and compile a comprehensive report for future administrative action.
