COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court scheduled preliminary hearings in the high-profile case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his grandmother Daisy Forrest.

The pre-trial conference is scheduled for November 12.

The case, involving allegations of illicit acquisition of assets worth approximately Rs. 73 million, was taken up before High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the prosecution handed over several documents to the defense.

President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis, appearing for the accused, informed the court that additional documents relevant to the case are contained in a file linked to another case pending before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court. He requested time to examine those records.

Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, representing the Attorney General’s Department, sought a date for document review and requested that the court fix a date to commence the pre-trial conference.

After considering submissions, the judge ordered the case to be called on November 6 for document inspection and scheduled the pre-trial conference for November 12. The accused were directed to appear before the court on both dates.

The Attorney General filed the indictment alleging that the accused committed offenses under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by unlawfully acquiring assets and property valued at nearly Rs. 73 million.
