Neville Wanni Arachchi Granted Bail | Travel Ban Imposed

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (31) ordered the release on bail of Neville Wanni Arachchi, the chief security officer of ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was in remand custody over allegations of unlawfully acquiring assets worth Rs. 28 million.

According to the court order, the suspect was released on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and three sureties of Rs. 1 million each. 

The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban, directing the suspect to surrender his passport to the court.

Wanni Arachchi was arrested on October 2 by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) while providing a statement. 

He was subsequently produced before court and held in remand custody until today’s hearing.

The case relates to suspicions that the former security officer amassed wealth and property through illicit means during his tenure. The investigation continues under the supervision of CIABOC.
