Special Committee to Assess Damage for Housing from Cyclone Ditwah

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Water Supply has announced that the assessment of damage to houses caused by Cyclone Ditwah will commence tomorrow.

This assessment will be carried out by a committee established under the Presidential Secretariat.

The Government has decided to provide the following financial allowances per affected household:

Rs. 25,000 for cleaning the house.

Rs. 50,000 for resettlement and purchasing household equipment, to be paid only once per housing unit, irrespective of ownership.

An allowance of Rs. 25,000 will be provided for three months, for families with two members or less, who have lost their homes or completely lost their livelihoods due to the disaster.

An allowance of Rs. 50,000 will be provided for three months, for families with more than two members, who have lost their homes or completely lost their livelihoods due to the disaster.

Families without a place to reside will receive  Rs. 25,000 per month for a maximum of six months to cover the rent of temporary housing.
