Weather Alert Issued for Western and Southern Provinces

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology says that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm can be expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Many areas across the island may experience rain or thundershowers after 1:00 PM.

This is due to the gradual establishment of the Northeast Monsoon across the island.

The wind speed in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam via Mannar to Kankasanthurai may increase up to about 45 kilometers per hour. 

The Department of Meteorology advised the public to take precautions to stay protected from possible hazards.
