COLOMBO (News 1st) - The water supply disrupted nationwide has now been fully restored.
Chairman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board Chandana Bandara confirmed that any household water connections damaged by the recent disasters will be repaired free of charge.
The total damage to the Board is estimated at Rs. 5.6 billion.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board reports that 99 percent of the disrupted power supply has been restored.
Deputy General Manager Noel Priyantha said efforts are ongoing to reconnect electricity for 26,000 consumers in the Central and Uva provinces, with all disrupted transmission systems already repaired.
The recent disasters left 4.1 million electricity consumers without power.
Commissioner General of Essential Services Prabath Chandrakeerthi stated that 292 out of 293 highways damaged by the disasters have been reopened for traffic, while 15 of 42 major bridges have been repaired.
He also noted that around 90 percent of the 236 hospitals affected by the disasters have been restored to normal conditions.
