COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology says that an increase in rainfall is expected from the 29th in the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces.
This change in weather is attributed to an active easterly wave-like wind pattern that is likely to affect the island.
The Department of Meteorology advises the public to pay close attention to official weather advisories issued in this regard.
Meanwhile, afternoon showers or thundershowers are likely in the Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, and Kalutara districts, according to the Met department.
Fairly strong winds, reaching speeds of around 40 km/h, may occur in the eastern slopes of the Central hills, as well as in the Northern Province, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.
The public is urged to take necessary precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning hazards associated with thundershowers.
In addition, wind speeds in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Puttalam and Kankesanthurai up to Mullaitivu, as well as from Matara to Hambantota, may increase to between 40 and 50 km/h.
Fishing and naval communities are advised to remain vigilant and follow weather updates issued by the authorities.
