COLOMBO (News 1st); An inmate who was receiving treatment at Nagoda Hospital in Kalutara, has been injured in a shooting incident.
Police said the incident occurred while the inmate was receiving treatment in ward 14 of the hospital.
The police suspect that the shooting was carried out by a revolver.
The inmate had been arrested by the Kalutara South Police on December 29, in connection with a drug-related offense and was subsequently placed in remand custody.
Police stated that during an earlier prison altercation, the suspect had sustained injuries on his forehead from a stone attack.
Accordingly, he was transferred to Kalutara Prison Hospital under prison security for treatment.
He was later shot while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The injured inmate is a 35-year-old resident of Rajawatta,
Kalutara.
