COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court scheduled January 27 for the hearing of the case filed against former Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and six other defendants over alleged misuse of government funds.
The order was issued by High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga.
The court also directed two witnesses to appear on the next date and issued summons accordingly.
The indictment, filed by the Attorney General, alleges that between December 26, 2014, and January 26, 2015, a sum of Rs. 6,146,110 belonging to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation was unlawfully spent under the pretext of providing flood relief, thereby causing misappropriation of public funds.
At the time, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa served as the Minister of Petroleum Industries. The case names him, his spouse, and five others as defendants under five separate charges.
