COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has initiated a series of special market raids to protect consumers during the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season.
According to an official statement, the primary goal of these raids is to prevent traders from exploiting the current Middle East crisis to create artificial shortages by hoarding essential food items, gas, and fuel.
The CAA aims to stop unfair price hikes and ensure goods remain accessible to the public.
To maximize enforcement, all CAA investigation officers have been ordered to remain on duty, including weekends and public holidays.
The Authority warned that strict legal action will be taken against any trader found violating consumer protection laws during this period.
