CID Moves Against Public Figures Over Easter Attack Statements

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that statements made by several individuals in the media in relation to the Easter Sunday terror attack investigations have caused contempt of court.

The CID reported to court that remarks made by Dilith Jayaweera, Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, Sugishwara Bandara, Mahinda Pathirana, and Asanka Navaratne have caused contempt of court..

The CID conveyed these facts by filing a motion before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena on Monday (15).

Investigating officers further informed court that an inquiry into the incident has already been initiated.

They also stated that steps are underway to file charges before the Court of Appeal against the individuals concerned under the Contempt of a Court, Tribunal or Institution Act, No. 8 of 2024.
