Sri Lanka Eyes Service Extension for Experienced Cops

COLOMBO (News 1st); The government is considering the possibility of granting a one-year service extension to police officers who have reached the age of 60 and maintained a satisfactory service record, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala said.

The Minister made the remarks while outlining ongoing efforts to address vacancies within Sri Lanka Police and strengthen law enforcement capacity across the country.

He said interviews are being conducted continuously to fill existing vacancies, while 200 Sub-Inspectors are currently undergoing training at the Police College.

In addition, fresh recruitment processes have been gazetted and interviews are currently underway. Interviews are also being conducted for the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors to the Police Special Task Force (STF).

Wijepala further stated that interviews are being held to recruit another 7,800 personnel during the course of this year as part of a broader effort to strengthen the police service.

The Minister added that special attention is being focused on the possibility of granting an additional year of service to officers who have reached the age of 60 and have demonstrated exemplary conduct and performance throughout their careers.

Meanwhile, he noted that 10,000 personnel from the Civil Security Department have been attached to the Police Department, with 6,000 already having assumed duties.
