BIA to Add 36 New Check-In Counters Under Expansion Plan

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The expansion project of Terminal 1 at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, has now commenced.

Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janith Ruwan Kodituwakku said the project is expected to increase the terminal’s annual passenger handling capacity to 10 million passengers.

The project, which will be implemented under four phases, is scheduled to be completed within a year.

As part of the development initiative, 36 new check-in counters will be installed, while a new fully equipped lobby area will also be constructed to enhance passenger convenience and improve airport operations.
