Metro Buses Now Running on More Colombo Corridors

COLOMBO (News 1st): Thousands of commuters across Colombo and its suburbs are expected to benefit from an expanded Metro Bus network, with the Lanka Metro Transit (LMT) Metro Bus Service commencing operations on five additional routes today (29).

The expansion comes in addition to the two routes that were already in operation, bringing the total number of Metro Bus corridors to seven.

The Metro Bus Service was officially launched today under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The expanded network now operates on the following routes:

CM01 – Makumbura to Pettah

CM02 – Athurugiriya (Millennium City) to Colombo Fort

CM03 – Kadawatha to Makumbura

CM04 – Dematagoda to Panadura

CM05 – Battaramulla to Ekala

CM06 – Kollupitiya Circular Route

CM08 – Kahathuduwa to Colombo Fort

The launch represents one of the most significant expansions of the Metro Bus concept to date, extending the service beyond its initial routes and connecting key residential, commercial and transit hubs across the Western Province.

Passengers can access bus timetables, designated bus stops and other travel information through the LMT GO App, which has been introduced as the digital platform supporting the new service.

With Colombo continuing to grapple with congestion and growing commuter demand, transport authorities hope the expanded Metro Bus network will encourage more people to use public transport by offering improved accessibility, connectivity and convenience for daily travel.
