COLOMBO (News 1st): The University Grants Commission (UGC) says Vice-Chancellors have been instructed to submit proposals to ensure that students are enrolled in all universities on the same date.

UGC Vice Chairman Professor Wasantha Liyanage said that it currently takes around a year and a half to enroll students who qualify for university admission through the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination at certain universities.

However, he said students selected for Engineering and Medical faculties are enrolled across all universities without such delays.

Professor Liyanage said Vice-Chancellors have been asked to identify the reasons for delays in student enrollment, propose solutions to address them, and recommend measures to be implemented in the coming years.

He added that steps will be taken to resolve the issue after considering the proposals submitted by the Vice-Chancellors.
