COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court today ordered that the case filed against former Minister Rohitha Bogollagama be recalled on October 29.
The charges originate from allegations that, during an investment promotion exhibition held in London in 2006 under the auspices of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI), Rohitha Bogollagama induced the Chairman of the BOI to authorize payments exceeding Rs. 1.5 million for hotel accommodation and exhibition-related expenses in violation of Treasury regulations.
An open warrant had previously been issued against the former minister after he failed to appear in court on several occasions in connection with the case pending before the High Court.
Acting on the warrant, a team of officers attached to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested the former minister on October 7.
When the suspect was produced before the High Court on the same day, the presiding judge ordered that he be remanded until the conclusion of the matter.
