COLOMBO (News 1st); In a stride towards enhancing regional maritime safety, ten Sri Lankan officers, including nine from the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), successfully completed IMO Level 1 and Level 2 training.

This comprehensive program, which also included participants from the Maldives Coast Guard and the Maldives Environment Protection Agency, was organized by Ambipar in collaboration with the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) and funded by the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP), according to SLCG media.

The training aimed to bolster oil spill response strategies, establish effective incident command systems, and implement joint practical solutions during field exercises.

Participants engaged in hands-on activities at Maldivian harbours and a remote island, deploying fence booms, operating weir skimmers, and utilizing Maldives Coast Guard assets to tackle simulated oil spill scenarios.
