Sri Lanka Reports 37,753 Cancer Patients, with 104 New Cases Diagnosed Daily

COLOMBO (News1st) - The Ministry of Health says that there are currently 37,753 cancer patients in the country. 

Community Health Specialist from the National Cancer Control Program, Hasareli Fernando said that approximately 104 new cancer cases are diagnosed daily. 

She highlighted that the leading causes of oral cancer include chewing Areca nut, chewing tobacco, and smoking, while smoking is responsible for more than 80% of lung cancer cases.

She shared this during a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau for World Cancer Day, which is observed on February 4th.
