Interim Injunction Halts Local Government Election Process For Several LG Bodies

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Court of Appeal has issued an interim injunction suspending election-related activities in the Colombo Municipal Council and several other local government institutions.

This decision comes in response to writ petitions filed by various political parties and independent groups challenging the rejection of their nomination papers.

The Court of Appeal granted permission for these petitions to be examined, leading to the issuance of the interim injunction.

The court has ordered that objections to these petitions be filed by May 5th.

If there are any counter-objections, they must be submitted by May 7th.

The examination of the petitions is scheduled for May 16th.

The interim injunction will remain in effect until the examination of the petitions is concluded.
