Former Uva Deputy Chief Secretary Released on Bail

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala today (24)ordered the release on bail of Sumithra Silva, the former Deputy Chief Secretary (Finance) of Uva Province, who was taken into custody by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Silva was arrested on charges of aiding and abetting the misappropriation of Rs 17.3 million from six fixed deposit accounts belonging to the Uva Provincial Council. 

These allegations are linked to actions taken by Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dasanayake during his tenure as Chief Minister of Uva Province.

Magistrate Kekunawala granted Silva bail on two personal sureties of Rs 1 million each and imposed a travel ban on her. The case is scheduled to be called again on June 17.
