COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka says that it will maintain a neutral stance on India-Pakistan Crisis.
Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa clarified Sri Lanka’s official position on the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan during the Cabinet media briefing.
Dr. Jayatissa emphasized that Sri Lanka remains firmly committed to a non-aligned foreign policy and will not intervene in geopolitical conflicts in the Indian Ocean region. “From the outset, our position has been clear — we do not get involved in regional political or military disputes. We act independently, safeguarding our sovereignty,” he stated.
He further noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the situation and regularly updating the government on developments.
The Minister strongly reiterated Sri Lanka’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. “We do not support terrorism in any form. However, we are always ready to assist in efforts to prevent terrorism, wherever necessary,” he said.
Dr. Jayatissa also highlighted the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic relations with both India and Pakistan. “Both countries have supported us in the past and are expected to continue doing so. We maintain good diplomatic ties with both nations, and we believe that certain issues are for them to resolve bilaterally.”
He firmly stated that Sri Lanka will not allow its land, waters, or airspace to be used for any hostile actions against another country. “This is a principle we have upheld consistently,” he said.
Dr. Jayatissa reaffirmed that Sri Lanka’s role in the region is to help minimize conflict, promote peace, and support anti-terrorism efforts — not to take sides in disputes.
