15 Projects, Zero Progress: Embilipitiya Officials Arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st); Six officials from farming societies in Embilipitiya have been arrested in connection with a large-scale financial misconduct investigation involving state funds allocated for development projects.

The arrests were made following a probe into irregularities surrounding 77 projects approved by the Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha between 2016 and 2018.

According to police, over Rs. 70 million was allocated for these projects, which were intended to be implemented through local farming societies. 

However, investigations revealed that 15 of the approved projects were never initiated.

The suspects were taken into custody, and police confirmed that the arrests are directly linked to the ongoing inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of government resources.
