COLOMBO (News 1st); Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Training, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, has instructed relevant authorities to formulate recommendations and implement measures to eliminate ragging, harassment, and all forms of violence within universities and other higher education institutions.

This directive was issued during the first official meeting held yesterday (2) between the Prime Minister and members of the newly established National Task Force for the Eradication of Ragging and Campus Violence.

"“We must investigate the various forms of violence and harassment occurring across the entire education sector including the university system and other higher education institutions, and take both short-term and long-term measures to end such practices," the Prime Minister was quoted as saying, according to her Facebook page.

Several key decisions were made during the discussion, including the need to update existing laws, introduce mechanisms for victims to report incidents safely, and take appropriate action.
