Suspects Linked to Killings Based on Info from Pillayan, Detained

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have confirmed that three individuals arrested based on information revealed by Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, are currently being interrogated in connection with killings and abductions,.

According to police, the suspects are being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and will be detained and questioned over a 72-hour period.

One of Pillayan’s close associates was arrested yesterday (7) in the Kalmunai area by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). 

Two other individuals—former Eastern Provincial Council member K. Pushpakumar, also known as Iniya Bharathi, and Sivalingam Thavaseelan—were taken into custody the day before (6).

Police stated that the arrests were made following details that emerged during interrogations of Pillayan, which are part of ongoing investigations into multiple homicides.
