COLOMBO (News 1st): Three officials attached to the Department of Motor Traffic have been arrested in connection with an alleged illegal vehicle registration scheme, according to a media release issued by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on Monday (July 14).
The arrests were made following an investigation into the irregular registration of a vehicle bearing. The vehicle had reportedly been registered in violation of standard procedures.
Among those arrested is a former Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic, who is currently serving as a Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Lands. She is accused of authorizing the registration of the vehicle in question despite legal inconsistencies.
Also taken into custody were a Development Assistant at the Narahenpita branch of the Department of Motor Traffic, and an Investigation Officer at the same branch.
The two are alleged to have facilitated and approved the unlawful registration process.
