COLOMBO(News 1st): President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his Deepavali message, stated that as the nation marks the festival of lights today (20), the government remains deeply committed to addressing the major challenges before the country — particularly the widespread drug menace and the network of organised crime that hinder national progress.

He noted that ensuring every individual’s right to life and promoting that right as one to a good and healthy life stands at the core of the government’s mission.

The President further highlighted that the government bears a duty to safeguard the physical, mental, material, and emotional well-being of all citizens, as well as all those residing within the country.

He emphasised that the government is determined to overcome all forms of religious and ethnic extremism, to establish social justice, and to build a secure nation where everyone can enjoy civil, political, and cultural rights without obstruction.

Extending greetings on the occasion of Deepavali, the President expressed hope that as every household lights lamps today, the collective journey towards fulfilling the aspiration for “A Thriving Nation, A Beautiful Life” will become more united.
