Matugama PS Chairman Missing After Alleged Assault

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have launched a search operation for the Chairman of the Matugama Pradeshiya Sabha, who is accused of assaulting the council’s secretary during a heated dispute over a development project worth nearly Rs. 20 million.

According to senior police officials, a team visited the chairman’s residence last night, but he was not present. 

Another police team began operations in the Matugama area this morning to locate him.

The secretary, who is currently receiving treatment at hospital, lodged a formal complaint with Matugama Police, alleging that the chairman threatened her and struck her with a heavy file weight while she was on duty at the council office.

The attack reportedly occurred after a verbal clash over the controversial project.

Police have already recorded six statements related to the incident and confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
