Destruction of 170 Kg of Heroin Carried Out Under Police Supervision

COLOMBO(News 1st); The destruction of 170 kilograms of heroin, following the completion of all legal proceedings, took place today.

The operation was carried out under strict supervision and monitoring.

What were these Narcotics, and when were they taken into police custody?

These drugs were seized on September 7, 2021, following information received by the Batticaloa Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau, with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy.

They were later handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.

The haul included 106 kilograms and 248 grams of heroin, along with 90.5 grams of opium.

After the conclusion of all legal proceedings, the drugs were produced as court exhibits before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and were transported to the Lactowatte police incinerator in Wanathavilluwa at 6.00 a.m. today.

How was security provided during the transportation of the Narcotics?

The transportation was carried out under tight security provided by the Special Task Force (STF).

After reaching the Wanathavilluwa incinerator, the drugs were re-weighed and re-verified.

Following all inspections, the destruction of the drug stock took place at 9.00 a.m. today, in the presence of Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama.
