COLOMBO (News 1st); A 30-year-old Sri Lankan national, identified by Japanese media as Jayatunga Aarachichirage Danushka, has been arrested on suspicion of robbery resulting in injury following an incident in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, the Metropolitan Police Department announced Thursday (9). The arrest was made on Wednesday.

According to police, the suspect—an unemployed resident of Oiso, Kanagawa Prefecture—allegedly approached a woman in her 30s from behind at around 3:30 a.m. on December 21, 2025, covered her mouth, and demanded “cash.”

He then pushed her to the ground and stole a bag containing items including a credit card.

The victim sustained injuries to her neck and other areas, requiring about two weeks to recover, authorities said.

The suspect has reportedly admitted to the allegations.

Police are also investigating whether the suspect was involved in another attempted robbery about 30 minutes earlier on a nearby street, where a woman in her 20s was nearly robbed of her bag by a man.
