COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Digital Economy has confirmed that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the fraudulent generation of fuel QR codes.

Ministry Advisor Sumudu Ratnayake said that individuals had exploited the newly introduced method for generating QR codes, creating unauthorized codes for other people’s vehicles just a day after the system update.

He further revealed that approximately 600,000 new QR codes were generated within a single day.

Despite these issues, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation confirmed that fuel distribution via the QR code system is continuing successfully.

Under the current schedule, filling stations will issue fuel today only to vehicles with number plates ending in an even digit or zero.
