COLOMBO (News 1st): The auspicious time for the anointing of oil for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was observed at 6:55 this morning.
According to astrological traditions, the ritual required devotees to dress in green-colored attire and face East. The custom involves placing Kohomba (Margosa) leaves over the head and Kolon leaves under the feet, followed by a bath after applying oil and Nanu herbal mixtures.
The State Oil Anointing Ceremony is currently underway at the Sri Maha Natha Devalaya premises within the Sri Dalada Maligawa complex in Kandy.
The ceremony is being held under the guidance of the Most Venerable Mahanayake Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters of the Siamopali Maha Nikaya. The Minister of Health and Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, is also in attendance.
