Search Operations Continue After Deduru Oya Drowning Incident

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police say search operations are continuing for those reported missing after going swimming in the Deduru Oya in Embalayagama, Kobeigane.

The operations are being carried out with the assistance of the Navy’s diving unit.

Police said a group of around 15 people went swimming in the Deduru Oya yesterday afternoon and got into difficulty.

Two bodies have been recovered so far.

Six others remain missing.

Police also said five people have been rescued.

Two more individuals who were pulled from the water have been admitted to hospital.
