32-Year Jail Term for Child Rape Convict in Anuradhapura

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Anuradhapura Special High Court has sentenced a man convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl to 32 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The High Court Judge, in delivering the verdict, also ordered the convict to pay compensation of Rs. 500,000 to the victim. In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 70,000 on the offender.

The judgment was handed down following the conclusion of a trial initiated after the Attorney General filed indictments against the accused.

The charges originate from an incident that occurred in July 2016 in the Thambuttegama area, where the crime was committed.
