Suspect Arrested In Jaffna Over Teldeniya Woman's Murder

COLOMBO (News 1st): The main suspect, his wife, and a young child have been arrested in Jaffna, in connection with the incident where a woman's body was found inside a parked car in Teldeniya area.

They were arrested while traveling inside a bus, bound for Jaffna from Colombo.

The arrest was made during a joint operation conducted by the Nuwara Eliya Police, the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The suspects are scheduled to be taken today to inspect a location where they had previously stayed.

The police suspect that the duo had disguised themselves as a Tamil couple and were preparing to flee to India.

The operation to arrest the suspect and the others was carried out under the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Police stated that the arrested suspects will be handed over to the Nuwara Eliya Police for further investigations.

The woman's body was discovered on the evening of 17 June, inside a car, near the Teldeniya Hospital.

It was later confirmed that the deceased was a 33-year-old resident of Weligama, who had served as a physiotherapist at the Ampara Hospital.

An open verdict was given during the post-mortem examination conducted regarding her death.

Meanwhile, police stated that the arrested main suspect is accused in connection with over 20 incidents of corruption and fraud.

Several court cases are currently pending against the suspect in multiple courts.

He is a resident of Narammala, Kurunegala.

Investigations have also revealed that the suspect had maintained close relationships with several women and had posed as a software engineer by forging a fake identity card.

The police further noted that the car in which the body was found near the Teldeniya Hospital belonged to another woman with whom the suspect had maintained a relationship.
