Poson Celebrations Underway As Over 1.5 Million Devotees Expected In Anuradhapura

COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Poson Festival is being held centered around the historic Mihintale, the Anuradhapura Atamasthana, and the Thantirimale Rajamaha Viharaya.

A vast number of people are already arriving in Anuradhapura, and it is expected that over 1.5 million devotees will visit Anuradhapura this year.

In conjunction with the Poson full moon poya day, the historic Mihintale Mihindu Perahera paraded the streets last night.

Today, the sacred ground of Mihintale was filled with devotees from across the island.

A Bhakthi Gee concert prganized by the Sri lanka Police was held last night in front of the Ruwanweli Maha Seya.

Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya, was also present at the event.

People from all corners of the island are arriving at temples and sacred sites, including the Ruwanweli Maha Seya, Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, and the Polonnaruwa Gal Viharaya.
