COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Health says a Special Dengue Control Week is being implemented from today (14), covering seven provinces across the island.
Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said the programme will cover 62 MOH divisions in the seven provinces where a higher number of dengue cases have been reported.
According to Dr. Kannangara, officials have conducted special inspections to identify premises requiring urgent Dengue Control measures, particularly areas requiring Mosquito Eradication activities.
Accordingly, 62 MOH divisions have been identified with active mosquito breeding sites based on the rate of the spread of mosquito larvae.
He also stated that approximately 97,000 dengue cases have been reported so far this year.
Dr. Kapila Kannangara said Tri Forces and Sri Lanka Police will also support the Special Dengue Prevention Programme.
