Silver for Sri Lanka, Gold for India in Asian Games Women’s Cricket Final

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Women concluded their Asian Games campaign with the silver medal after falling to a dominant India Women’s side by 147 runs in the gold medal match of the 2026 Asian Games.

Batting first in the final, India Women piled up an imposing 216 for 3 from their 20 overs, led by a brilliant 79 off 45 deliveries from Smriti Mandhana. Richa Ghosh then provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 49 from just 22 balls, helping India post a daunting target of 217.

For Sri Lanka, Chamudi Praboda and Kavisha Dilhari claimed one wicket each, but the Indian batters controlled proceedings throughout the innings.

Facing a huge chase, Sri Lanka struggled to gain momentum against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Captain Chamari Athapaththu fought hard with 29 runs from 21 deliveries, while Kaushini Nuthyangana contributed 14.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 69 in 15.4 overs.

India’s bowlers dominated the contest, with Deepti Sharma producing an outstanding spell of 3 wickets for 6 runs, while Shafali Verma chipped in with 2 wickets for just 3 runs.

The victory secured the gold medal for India Women, while Sri Lanka Women completed a campaign by earning the silver medal.
