Sri Lanka and Indonesia To Sign 5-Year Bilateral Pact

COLOMBO (News 1st); Cabinet approval has been granted for Sri Lanka and Indonesia to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Consultations that will remain in effect for a period of five years.

The agreement comes as Sri Lanka and Indonesia prepare to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.

According to the Government, both countries have agreed to enter into the Memorandum of Understanding with the objective of further strengthening, expanding and advancing bilateral relations.

The proposed framework will facilitate regular bilateral consultations between the two nations, enabling both sides to review the progress of their relationship, exchange views on bilateral and international matters, and coordinate positions on issues of mutual interest.

The agreement is also expected to create a structured platform for continued diplomatic engagement and cooperation between the two countries.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal submitted by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka.
